More than one million people across the United States participate in some form of race on Thanksgiving Day. Perhaps it’s so we feel less guilty about the delicious feast awaiting us for dinner and all of the pieces of pie we are going to devour, or maybe it’s so we feel our time spent lounging on the couch watching football is better deserved. Turkey trots are a longstanding tradition and Thanksgiving Day is now the most popular day of the year to run.
The 30A 10K is a beloved South Walton holiday tradition and to date has given more than $350,000 to local charities. Multiple distance options are available so runners of all ages and experience can enjoy the festivities. The two day event kicks off with a Thanksgiving Extravaganza at the Hub. This is a festive event for the entire family to enjoy while racers pick up their packets and race information. Bring a blanket and spend the night sampling food from the Hub restaurants and watching movies on the lawn. Our Prominence properties are right across the street from all of the exciting activities happening at the Hub so you won’t miss out on any of the fun.
Thanksgiving Day is race day! Lace your shoes up and get a healthy breakfast in bright and early. The 10K kicks off at 7:30am followed by the 1 Mile Fun Run at 7:35am and the 5K at 9:30am. All races begin and end in downtown Rosemary Beach. The course runs along Scenic 30A through vibrant beach communities providing stunning views of the gulf, beaches, and lakes while you run. If you stay in one of our Seacrest Beach properties you will have easy access to all the race day fun without having to fight for a parking spot. If you plan to participate, register for a race now! Last year the event did sell out. If you don’t want to run, you can still come out and enjoy our fabulous fall weather spectating, shopping, or cheering on your favorite racer.
A Thanksgiving turkey trot is a fun way to participate in a nationwide holiday tradition, enjoy the beautiful outdoors with family, and of course support a great cause. Whether you choose to sign up for the 10K, 5K, or 1 mile fun run, you won’t regret burning some extra calories before a day of relaxation and indulgence. Reward yourself with a big piece of pumpkin pie, you earned it!
