South Walton may not feel like it’s very Christmas-y with its warm winters, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t full of Christmas spirit! From Destin Harbor to Rosemary Beach, city governments and business sponsors alike throw all sorts of holiday events to celebrate the end of the year and the Christmas spirit. Whether you’re looking for plays or parades, there’s something in driving distance that’ll help you embrace the spirit of the season!
South Walton’s Turn on the Town
Saturday, November 25th, the Seaside Amphitheater hosts Turn on the Town. Going far beyond the typical lighting of a Christmas tree, Seaside prepares to light up the city with festive lights! The event begins with a parade at 4, with other festivities beginning at 5. If you want a dramatic start to the Holiday season, this is it!
Every Christmas Story Ever Told
Ever feel like Christmas stories seem to run together with their themes? Interested in a new take on some old classics? Come watch three actors from Seaside Repertory Theatre pull out all the stops in Every Christmas Story Ever Told, and enjoy some holiday satire! The fifty-minute play is sure to have you laughing at new twists on classic favorites. Best of all, the performance is free—one is happening on Tuesday, November 21st in Rosemary Beach, another that Friday at NatureWalk in Seagrove, another on Saturday, November 25th at Alys’ Beach’s Amphitheater, and another later that day at the Seaside Post Office during Turn on the Town!
Café Thirty-A Charity Christmas Soiree
Did you grow up in South Walton, or has it perhaps become a place dear to your heart with your repeated visits? If so, perhaps give back at the formal Charity Christmas Soiree. Starting at 7 p.m. on December 1st, the annual soiree costs $75 per person, with proceeds going to Caring and Sharing of South Walton. Café Thirty-A will be beautifully decorated for its guests in the spirit of the season, with a buffet, music, and large silent auction entertaining attendees throughout the evening. Why not go to the auction and find a fine souvenir? Your purchase will benefit both you and the less fortunate!
Holiday on the Harbor Lighted Boat Parade
Celebrating over 30 years of tradition, the Lighted Boat Parade at Destin Harbor returns again in 2017! Full of dazzling displays and lively lights, the Boat Parade includes a ballet, parade, and fireworks show! Santa comes in to visit with the kids around noon, and at 4 p.m. a special performance of The Nutcracker begins. The parade begins at 6 in the evening, with each boat lit with Christmas lights and other displays that celebrate the season. The fireworks show begins at 8—giving judges enough time to make their final decisions for the awards ceremony. This festival of light and sound is a full day of non-stop excitement!
