Set! Dig! Spike!
If you’re in the Grayton Beach vicinity on Monday or Wednesday nights, it’s likely that you might hear these shouts coming from the sand off of the primary beach access. Grayton Beach Volleyball is a fun activity on the shores of South Walton.
The group of 30A locals who started this weekly tradition were originally just looking for a new, and fun, nighttime beach activity. The group began as some friends setting up the nets and hanging out together, and it’s safe to say that the club has picked up some serious traction since then! Grayton Beach Volleyball now attracts anywhere from 50-60 people a night and has grown from around 10 members to over 300.
Attracting locals and tourists, volleyball is a fun sport that can be enjoyed at any age or skill level. Whether you have experience or are just looking to get active, this is a great way to socialize and enjoy a night out on the beach - proving that there’s no reason the beach time has to end just because the sun goes down. Typically the night runs as a pick-up game style, 2x2 or 4x4, but when interest is high enough they even organize tournament style play too. The group keep their Facebook and Instagram pages updated frequently with times, schedules, events, and pop up games, so make sure to check out if you want to plan accordingly. Usually, the nets go up around 5 pm, so pack some drinks in a cooler, and head out to the sand for some serious fun!
After you’ve had your fair share of diving around in the sand, take a dip in the refreshing gulf water, and then head over to Chiringo for a cold drink and a bite to eat. We have tons of great vacation rentals in Grayton Beach, so you’ll just be a short walk away from all the action.
