The Emerald Coast beckons year-round with the promise of pristine white sand beaches, the shimmering aquamarine waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and a resort-like atmosphere that simultaneously wraps guests in opulent luxury and relaxation. One of the best times to visit this 100-mile stretch of paradise in the Florida Panhandle is the early spring, when the days grow longer and the sun seems to sparkle a little brighter. One of the best reasons to visit this spring is the premier wine festival in the southeastern United States: The Sandestin Wine Festival.
The Festival
Entering its 32nd year, the Sandestin Wine Festival is regarded by oenophiles and industry experts as the “Kentucky Derby” of wine tastings. From its humble roots with only 10 vendors at the first festival in 1987, it now boasts hundreds of vintners showcasing their flagship wines. More than 4,500 wine enthusiasts from across the country will attend this year’s event, held April 12-15 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in the quaint Village of Baytowne Wharf, Florida. Whether you are a novice to wine tasting or an expert, this celebration of our favorite spirit has something for everyone.
The Events
With a bevy of live entertainment, local food vendors, and wines from around the world, these 4 days and nights on the stunning Emerald Coast are a highlight of the spring season. The festival opens on Thursday, April 12, with the official Kick-Off Party sponsored by Rum Runners and Timber Creek, the Emerald Coast’s only distillery. Friday and Saturday (April 13-14) things kick into high gear with the Grand Wine Tastings, feature events with hundreds of regional, national, and international wines from all your favorite wineries and showcasing all your favorite varietals. Talk to the winemakers, ask all the wine questions you’ve been dying to ask, and enjoy the sumptuous dishes specifically chosen to pair with these fabulous wines at the Culinary Pavilion. Visit the Sandestinfestival website for ticket information.
A Gala Affair
While this is a festival first and foremost about wine in all its glory and splendor, there is plenty more to do. Don’t miss the Champagne and Seafood Cruise aboard the Solaris on Friday afternoon, Beach Yoga on Saturday morning, or the Bubbly Brunch on Sunday morning as the festival comes to a close. There will also be special appearances by world renowned experts, famous vintners, and plenty of live entertainment.
Whether your tastes run from the buttery charm of a Chardonnay to the full-bodied notes of a Cabernet, with over 500 wines to explore the Sandestin festival promises something for every palate and wine drinker. Enjoy special discounts on the wines you taste, and buy direct from the festival to stock your wine fridge or add to your collection. We can’t wait to see you there!
